The "Hikiyama"Autumn Festival in Karatsu
("Iro-tomesode"-style kimono)
Sawai spent two and a half years creating this scene of about 130 festival attendees in Edo costume and some of the 14 Hikiyama floats. Designated as important intangible folk culture assets by the national government, these floats were built in 1819 and have been passed down to the present day. Received "Japan Branch Grand Prize" and other awards from Millet Association in France.
